Nook o' Doom

I'm somewhat disappointed by how dark these pictures are because they don't quite capture the splendor that was The Nook. Take picture one, for example.

Yes, it does, indeed, look drab and lifeless. But it's hard to see how drab and lifeless it really is. And the full glory of the bubble-light ceiling fan. And the tasteful 3-d ceramic fruit on the wall. Everything here (like everything in the entire house) is the color of masking tape, so it's hard to differentiate between the walls and the ceiling and the trim. The past the future the present the past the past the past... (Which is nice, though, because I'd rather not know where these boundaries are because I'm a child of the eighties who grew up with way too many of them. Let this caged bird fly!)

Picture two, though, shows one of my favorite aspects of the nook: the accent colors.

Hot pink and turquoise! It's almost as if the previous decorators had me in mind when they picked this combo. Tender mercy, huh? One thing that you tragically can't see in this picture, though, are the gold flecks in the table top and the hot pink underside (in case you're sitting on the floor looking up and hoping against hope for some connection to the hot pink panels in the benches, obviously).

  1. I'm here! It took me a while but I made it. I haven't gotten past the before and after dining room pictures (spectacular by the way . . . I may have to borrow some ideas for our house) but I'm excited to see more. I think you're about due an email one of these days.

  2. Maybe masking tape is supposed to remind us how a home brings a family together. Or how remodeling a home makes you feel like you have wads of greasy masking tape all over your skin and hair.
